That static thing!

I have been getting a lot static shocks.. I mean A LOT... the kind that you get from touching some metal surfaces or even other people since it is oohh soo dry....
For the past weeks it's been freezing and dry around here. The result is I'm a lot jumpier than ever. My little boy gets that static shock everytime he comes to me or vice versa. Poor little thing... he just sigh "ouch" quietly when it happens. I am so sorry my dear boy.. but I can't help it! I put on lotion often, but it doesn't last too long. Now I run the humidifier in our bedroom because it has carpeting - which is the ingredient to make static. It helps to have a bit of moisture in the air. Good thing most of our rooms have wood flooring.

At the office, on the other hand, all carpety and more .. I have to flick each surface before I touch it: door handles, file cabinets, copy machine, etc. I find it easier to handle the shock by flicking because I kinda suspect to get hurt a bit. But what about the people??? Do I have to flick them first before I touch them?... My boss' wife which is the office manager often says to me "you're electric today" (which is happen almost everyday) because I always give her static shock when we discuss something, exchange files, etc. Our recepsionist always giggles everytime she sees me flicking stuffs at the office. Might as well call me "electric girl" or "the girl who gets static shock all the time".
Wonder if I can harness the power...

Dear rain, how I miss you in this dry winter.

Resolutions

I know it's kind of late for reciting my new year's resolutions. I have been reading other people's resolutions but forgot about mine. Actually it's not that late considering I almost achieved number one.
My resolutions sound more like plans but I keep it simple:

  1. Remodel the kitchen. It's outdated and falling apart and it's time to make it a place I can call my own. This one is almost happening. I have been shopping for cabinets and new appliances, all I need now is the countertops and flooring. So forgive me if I'm lagging on the blogging.. it's almost time for lots of working.
  2. Reduce the junks. I am a sentimental person. I like to keep stuffs that are given to me, or I bought or found in certain occasions. And I am good at taking care of them so they don't break overtime. The result: I have more and more stuffs. Even after moving here from my country 7 years ago, I have collected many things. So I want to be more careful when buying stuffs - make sure I need it and use it well. For the stuffs that I don't need I can give or donate them to others. Does that mean I have to let go some "treasures"? That will be hard but I'll wise up.
  3. Preserve the memories. Meaning: to organize my family photos. I am not sure yet if I will be making scrapbooks or doing it digitally. But it's better to start now before it accumulates and harder to do.

I hope it's happening this year and I will be very happy if it is. It's good to think that I will be looking back to this blog and be reminded to do my plans over the year... They are not that many but it will be big achievement for me.

I'll keep on posting...

Going back to routine

The first week of January seemed to past really fast. We got over the festivity and hurry back to our routine.

Husby gets back to work out of town, but still trying to find reasons to go home during weekdays. Of course it makes our boy, Michael, oh so happy. He misses his papa a lot. Good thing that technology is so advance, my husband work is only an internet connection away. He can do his works from home if need to. Which is kind of tempting to ask him to stay home...

I am already busy with my job at the CPA firm - closing books, reconciling, filing year end reports, and so on. We got a bunch of new clients too, which is good for the business. We sent out our organizer to clients early this week and the phone has already been ringing off the hook - people are calling to schedule their tax appointments. Busy, busy, busy, until April 15.
I like the way my time passes by real quick productively. What can I say - I love my job. I like the fact that we are helping people with our expertise. And knowing my boss, he never over charges people for our service. Believe me, our clients get more than what they pay. That's the way we serve the business and community.
Beginning of this year I again realize that I am happy with my job. I hope it's a good sign that I will do it with high dedication.

Little Michael on the other hand, will have another happy year in preschool. He won't be old enough to enter kindergarten this year, but I have no doubt that he will exceed our expectations once again in term of achievements.
Marking this time he already can read step 1 reading books, he knows his way with computer and use the mouse very well, he even mastered many preschool scholastic softwares which includes the use of logic, early reading skill, early math skill and typing. He's our little genius and he's not even four yet!
Sorry if it sounds like I am bragging.. but I can't help it. The truth is we never push him to do all these things. It is all his own will and he's enjoying it and having fun with it. I just feel so blessed to have this kid. My motto is to encourage him to learn with fun. I guess it works really well.

Already I can't wait to find out what this year's gonna bring.

a little about us

We are family of three...

a mother (that's me) who enjoys
fooling around with her little boy,
sharing stories about her day to her husband while going to bed,
running up and down to keep her house comfortable,
calling her mom or flipping through recipe books to fix up dinner..
while still doing great at her job with a CPA firm,

a father (that's my husband) who enjoys
playing games and reading books with his "little me",
bringing home a surprise for his wife,
shopping for a great deal before buying something,
waking up early in the morning to check on his NBA stats..
while proudly working his dream job with a networking company,

and a 3 years old boy (that's my son) who enjoys
finding Seymour and Waldo in his books,
snacking Cheerios wherever whenever,
teasing his mama and papa into chasing him,
going to the library on Saturday morning,
mastering the adventurous games of Putt-Putt..
while still has the energy to laugh and run and jump and dance
to his favorite Spongebob Squarepants.
