Black Out

It's the first week of April - should be the second busiest week of the year in my office (the busiest week is next week). Well, what do you know - we had a power outage. Starting 10:20 this morning the power went off and didn't come back until about 4-ish in the afternoon, but we all already left.

The whole hill was in black out and the traffic light at big intersection down the hill which leads to main highways to/from downtown, next town and freeway ramps was out. Some minor accidents and of course the traffic was backed out really badly for almost the whole day. According to the news there was a faulty switch that they (PG&E) couldn't find the source until about 2:45pm and another couple hours to fix it. It affects about 2400 customers mostly office buildings, 3 big hotels, a couple of big shopping centers and many more residentials.

Of course my boss wasn't happy at all and we had to reschedule 5 meetings that supposed to be done that day. Unfortunately all of our client's contacts information is in MsOutlook with no way to access at the moment; so some of the clients end up coming into our slightly darken office (good thing we had giant windows all around) and have a chat with the boss - but went home unclear about their tax status though - poor people.

A couple of them we found the phone numbers through yellow pages. So, good for them.. otherwise they would've stucked in the traffic on the way to/from our place.

Most of the employees from our office buildings left the work around noon. They couldn't work and the place was getting hotter without A/C. Mine on the other hand is pretty cool... not as hot as the other rooms in our office. So I stayed... instead of doing the tax on computer, I organized and indexed the workpapers, making sure we got all stuffs we need, making notes on my findings.. and I made a huge stack of tax files on my desk - all organized nicely for me to finish for the next few days. It's actually not bad to be able to continue being productive without depending on electricity. And I have my nano-zen to keep me entertained during that quiet day (no ringing phone!).

What's on my mp3 player? Of course - Chrisye!
